Mos Def- Pistola

" If you wanna fall in love, then where should you stand to begin with?
& when the fall is done, how bad should you plan to get injured?
& if you land on your feet, do it count as a fall or a jump?
& do it feel like a fall when the hands that pushed you were holding you up?"

Mos Def- The Ecstatic

It has arrived...

& I must say it's so eclectic & random.
I love it.
He has this movie excerpt thing going on that I know will take me time to get used to & actually pay attention.
He's singing all over the place which we love & the flow is as sick as ever.

I was just telling homegirl B that it's going to be so fun this summer, deciphering the lyrics & knowing the album inside out.

So far, standout tracks include: Quiet Dog Bite Hard, Priority, Life in Marvelous Times, Auditorium (w/ SLICK RICK!!!!), History ( w/ Talib!), & way up on my list- Casa Bey.

But wait... why am I late on Mos' spanish flow? Why am I just recently finding out (from my cousin Johnny!) that dude's spanish flow is legit. Reminds me of Tego! Got a track on here called, "No Hay Nada Mas"... & maybe it's The Boogie Man Song of THIS album =)

The usual quirky "I don't really give a fuck if I sound random because I'm feeling myself so hard & I know this shit is hot" vibe carries throughout the album.

All I wanna do is understand, listen to, memorize, & enjoy this album.

Homework? Art History? YMCA? I have an album to love here, people.

This is all I'm about right now, & it feels good.

I'm not about to get into what Mos Def means to me lol

Check the album, period

=)

Next Day Air...

I really enjoyed this movie, great cast & humor.
Donald Fiason, Mike Epps, Wood Harris... and MOS DEF?!
Sounds great to me.... MINUS THE FACT THAT MOS ONLY HAD TWO 10 MINUTE SCENES.
Grimey... Don't gas me, have me thinking he's a main character... When he totally isn't.

Anyways, I laughed the whole time and plan on seeing it again.

Eddie from Family Matters (how immature of me to not take the time out to find his REAL name) surprised us all as a true G.
SINE WHEN?! Ok, I see you...

And Fiason was just the best, always had love for dude! Since Clueless, for sure.

Mike Epps? He don't have to say shit. I just see him and I laugh, he's the best... I'd much rather skip the topic of him all of a sudden being handsome and attractive to me. Gosh.

AND OMG DEBBIE ALLEN AS FAISON'S MOOOOOOM! WHO DOESN'T LOVE HER?! *dreamy sigh*

What NEEDS to be discussed is THIS brother right HERE:

OMARI HARDWICK
... So what if he reminds us a little of Flo Rida right here- so not the case in the movie.

Whose kid is this?! (LOL @ Eddie in the back)

...But enough about THAT. I'd recommend this movie to anyone I know and I won't mind checking it out again so my mom could enjoy it.

MY ONLY PROBLEM THOUGH-------> SPOILER ALERT.

That Latina chick was kind of annoying. How simplistic of Benny Boom to include the whole... Nuyorican- Rosie Perez- I Speak Spanglish- chick... you know? There was a part where she was praying for her man and she really brought out the coconuts, cigar, water to soak his picture in... ALL THE WHILE HECTOR LAVOE'S AGUANILE PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND. Oh but wait.... Not Hector Lavoe's version. Why the new Marc Anthony rendition of course :-D <----- fake smile. Did we have to show the spiritual side? IT JUST FELT CORNY TO ME! But I guess he captured what he knows.

Sidenote, kudos to Benny Boom on his first movie! I don't know where he's going to go from here but the fact that he could make this transition? That's something to take notice of.

Check out the movie.

=)

PS- "I hate you. I'm a hater of you." -Mos Def's character lol

FINALLY: Mos Def Recap

January 9th, 2009
Highline Ballroom
Doors Opened- 7:30
Show Scheduled to Start- 9
Show Actual Starting Time- 11

INSANITY!

As much as I enjoyed myself that night, I still can't believe that he made us wait 2 hours. 2 entire hours, standing/sitting on the ground, waiting for this man, wondering what the issue was! A part of me wants to believe that something happened because I never thought he'd do that... but we'll never know! No apology either! Just one of those "Thank you for your time, you could've been anywhere in the world tonight" type of things... ugh!

ANYWAYS!

He came out all jolly, with his beautiful smile and had a great time. When Mos has a good time, his audience can't help but to have a great time. He was also playing Warriors on the screen behind him, which I found pretty cool. (Not the first time he does something like that.) I'm guilty of paying more attention to the movie than anyone else because, well, I'd already seen Mos twice before and I was very mad at him for making me wait!

He performed a lot of new songs which were HOT, of course, and old ones... Including, Sex, Love, & Money, Ms. Fat Booty, Definition, UNDENIABLE, UMI SAYS... And my favorite of the night? (As usual) U R THE ONE.

And oh my goodness, what a surprise when he did LOVE. COMPLETELY caught me off guard.

As much as I enjoyed myself...We waited 2 hours for an hour and a half set. I'm not gonna get over it! Lol

Here are the pics, homies:

And of course...

*sigh* I enjoyed myself but I won't be seeing Mos for a while- I like to miss people I love.

"On the really-real!"

*deep deep sigh*

Tonight was the Mos Def (featuring Jay Electronica) concert @ Nokia Theater.

One word: entrancing

i thought i had experience natural highs before in life? Well, i was WRONG.

went with my homegirl Michelle, and wow, we had such a great time.

he did madddddddddddddddd songssss, and he's such a great artist.

he's so different!

first of all, homeboy was DEFINITELY drunk- that shit was MAD FUNNY.

he was cheesin't he whole night and sayin the most random shit, but it wasn't creepy or trashy or tasteless at all.

the only time i was like "um... ok mos..." was when he just went up to the speakers on both sides of the stage and just hugged them, just stood there saying nothing... hugging the speakers. right... lol that's love i guess.

second of all, it was like he was in his own world, just VIBING off the music. there were times he would let old music rock. not old rap, i'm talkin like the music kanye SAMPLES, that REAL SHIT, them throwbacks your parents- maybe even your grandparents!- listen to and he would just be there, dancin, feelin it soooooo fuckin hard. it was hot.

ok listen.

HE DID THE BOOGIE MAN SONG.
HE DID THE PANTIES.
HE DID SEX, LOVE, AND MONEY.
HE DID GHETTO ROCK.
HE DID MS. FAT BOOTY.
HE DID UMI SAYS.
HE DID U R THE ONE.

Do you understand that i died over and over again? MULTIPLE DEATHS. IT WAS INSANITY.

he also did other songs, old and NEW!!

ughhhhhhhhh, he's so amazing.

*crickets*

you just had to be there i guess, lol.

but! 3 shitty pics below!

and your eyes aren't foolin' ya! MS. ERYKAH BADU came out to do a track with Jay. like nothin, like we knew she was there!

now i REALLY gotta get me my ticket for HER show in May, what a tease.

they're shitty- but i loves em!

oh, and one of the highlights of the night? After he did U R THE ONE, he played the original- Michael Jackson's "if i don't love you this way" i didn't even know it was an MJ song! and he was like "give it up for classic mj! i don't care what he did to his face- that's none of our business- HE MADE YOU HAPPY. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!"

i was like EXAAAAAAACTLY, couldn't have said it better myself yo. real talk.

ok, i'm done.

go listen to Mos Def, i'm buildin up the collection as we speak.

=)

what a great weekend guys: Student Film @ the Tribeca Theater, poetry slam/open mic @ the Nuyorican, quality time with the best friend, and now THIS?! *sigh*

here's to a great week where hopefully my natural high from this concert remains!
