D'Angelo- I Found My Smile Again

*Courtesy of YouTube.

...why didn't anyone tell me?!

With his recent guest appearances on Common's "So Far To Go" and Q-Tip's "I Believe", I KNEW he would be returning soon- I just didn't know he was putting the finishing touches on a new album due out next spring already...!

Yeah, I like it. Glad to se hasn't lost it.

Q-Tip/ The Cool Kids Recap!!!!! (12/2)

Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun.
HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!

Sooooooooooooooo, last night was one of the illest nights of my life. Hands down.

Highline Ballroom with some friends, antsy for some real/good music.

Opening Act #1- Pacific Divison. A trio from LA, Mibb, Like, and BeYoung. What a great set, I can't stop listening to them! Currently obsessed with their "I'm Fat" "Gorgeous" and "Women Problems" joints. They're young, energetic, and a great time. Smooth.... Not to mention I'm crushin on two of them. =)

Opening Act #2- The Knux. Nope. Shouldn't have happened, really. Rock, pop-ish rap. Not my kind of fun. 2 very creepy guys who seemed ridiculously angry, demanding the crowd to go wild for them like they deserved it. Whatever.

The Cool Kids- Yes, yes ya'll. They started with "Pump Up the Volume", energy on highhhhh =) Highlights for me include "I (MIKEY) ROCK", "Black Mags", "Oscar the Grouch", "88"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and much more. Those are some funny dudes too, just like PacDiv, which always makes a show that much more fun.

And then.

*sigh*

Q-TIP. He's Godlike, I don't care what anyone says. Where do I begin? We were right up front the whole time, to the point where my neck was killin me from looking UP at the stage. Q comes out and he's standing directly in front of me. Ridiculously hyped, screaming the lyrics to Shaka into the mic. I wasn't ready. I wish I could remember the exact playlist, it was taped to the floor of the stage and we could read it lol

But anyways, he did "BONITA" "CHECK THE RHYME!!!!!!!" "AWARD TOUR!!!!!" (where he put the fuckin' mic to my friend's mouth and he said "do dat do dat....") "ELECTRIC RELAXATION!!!!" and among seeeeeveral other oldies, "SUCKA NIGGA"

I felt kind of embarrassed when he did "Check The Rhyme" because he gave the mic to 2 guys and they didn't know the words fully and his facial expression... it killed me lol you could tell he was just like "what. the. FUCK?!" he looked dumbfounded and I kept flashbackin to the last concert at NOKIA when he brought homeboy onto the STAGE and he was vibinnnn, knew every single world. Q looked at us with that smile and was like, "YO, KNOW MY SHIT!!!!" And put us in our place by doing it himself. I like it better that way anyways ;)

From the new shit he did "Gettin' Up" "You" "We Fight/ Love" "Manwomanboogie" (where Amanda Diva's cute self came out to jam) "Move" and finished with "Life is Better", coming out into the audience and everything.

Backtrack, right after Q started, we're vibing, and my friend's friend mentions that Mos Def was standing behind us for some time, vibing in the audience like nothing. Immediately- I die. (For about the 3rd time in the night.) So! Q-Tip is doing Bonita, we're all on Cloud 9 and I feel this commotion to my right. MOS DEF IS ATTEMPTING TO CHILL IN THE AUDIENCE 3 PEOPLE AWAY FROM ME. wtf!?!!??! as;odglha;dfgn I wasn't ready. It was too much on my heart because I wanted to stare at this wonderful man and Q-Tip performing one of my favorite Tribe songs at the same time. Not possible- or healthy. I felt bad for Mos though, all he wanted to do was chill and enjoy the show- but everyone was hounding him taking pictures lol (including me)

When it was over, I was so lifted I seriously didn't wanna leave the venue. Lucky me for hanging around because I recognized this one guy, walked up to him, turns out it was the editor in chief over at xxl magazine....! As a journalism major... I was gassed lol

Aw, and Talib was there =)

When we walked out, Why was Mikey Rock from The Cool Kids, just chillin outside? With his fine self? Coolin?

What an amazing night. It's experiences like these that make me want to work in the business that much more.

Oh, and at the end of it all? It was-
-you.
