THESE PUERTO RICANS:
AND THESE PUERTO RICANS:
... And I just need you all to understand this.
I was gonna write this entirely too long rant about a discussion on race in movies that we had in class, how we brought up the Latinos who embrace their race in Hollywood, and those who don't, how I find myself mostly annoyed with Latinas like J.Lo and how as much as she doesn't represent me... she actually does at the end of the day- but I'd rather not.

Wild, Wild Hair
Can we focus on ME for a minute? Damn!
Lately... I've been feeling a lot like THIS:
Yes yes, that's me long ago.
I appreciate every compliment on my hair, I do.
I just need people to understand that this hair is pretty much no fun. There, I said it.
IT FEELS LIKE A LOSING GAME.
"Which products should I use? How often should I wash it? Maybe washing it everyday is the best way to avoid untangling for an hour. No wait, then that'll dry it out right? No gel, right? OK, so just hair food? But that feels like Vaseline! Fuck it, I'm just gonna get a fade."
Understand?
Then I have a friend going natural, talking about all these African products and I'm like !?!?!?!?
So she put me on pretty much, with a bunch of blogs to save my soul.
My FAVORITE right now though? www.coarsehair.blogspot.com
And then THAT website put me onto www.kinky-curly.com!
I wanna try 2 of their products, KNOT TODAY and CURLING PUDDING!!!!
So I'll let you all know how that goes when I actually cop those...
And I kinda wanna dye my hair this color:
I doubt I'll do it, all this hair a completely different color... but it's always fun to dream.
Lastly... I need you to look at some pictures from this children's book "Wild, Wild Hair" that I stumbled upon at work.
You can't tell me this book isn't about me.
Here's the cover:
REALLY?! I died when I saw this book!
These next two are me every morning:
My mom and I up until middle school (AND Mami got short hair, crazy!):
And while I wish the book would've ended with a solution to this madness... This is cute enough:
Awww! Gotta love it.
=)

Making the Band Finale
*Courtesy of http://justentertainment.files.wordpress.com
*Courtesy of Rollingstone.com
Drama, drama, drama!
I get off the train, walk to 45th and Broadway and join the line with Geezy. And we wait.
The line for the Making the Band Finale at the MTV Studios isn't as bad as I thought, but I'm starving, underdressed with throbbing feet, and anxious about homework.
My connect won't answer my emails and we're not the list to get inside.
"Gabby, I'm out."
I was over the whole situation, but not homegirl- DETERMINATION AT IT'S BEST!
I'm trying to get us upstairs and nothing. is. working.
Finally (BLESS HIS SOUL!!!!!) our new crush, security guard TONY, found who we were looking for and we got upstairs.
Shitty seats, but what an interesting show.
We met Dawn (mad sweet and down to earth), Aundrea (mad tiny and cute in the highest heels ever), and Shannon (graceful, perfection).
We found out... nothing. Everyone was so tight lipped, huh?
What do you guys think?
I feel Diddy on Aubrey being a different person (I think she's on something)... but did he have to kick her out?
And poor D.Woods... even though I always felt like she should be a solo act. She doesn't mix well with them, I don't think.
So more power to her! :)
I wonder if Dawn is gonna go solo.... WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN WITH THEM?!
We can assume all we want... but the look in Diddy's eyes... I wish we knew what was REALLY going on...
God is good, we wound up backstage where we met Willie who gave us a kiss hello, and jolly Brian who hugged me once I told him he was my favorite voice in the group and that I respect him.
Wish I could go more into detail but yesterday was just CRAZY and I still can't believe we were chillin backstage lol
They just seem so down to earth and i like them even more.
Time to start applying for internships...!!!

Maxwell Recap!!!
Can I just jump right into it and say that with each song performed by this beast of a man, it was like he was undressing every woman in the audience?
One by one, shirt, pants, bra....
Radio City, 8pm, opening act Jazmine Sullivan (Need U Bad)
I don't have pictures or anything, we were sitting all the way up top, but wow guys... what a fucking show.
What a sexy show... and not even in a raunchy way.
How you have a song that's just sexy- even before you start singing?!
*sigh*
o0o, how about before he started this one song... he stopped it and was like
THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PANTIES ON MY STAGE
i died.
he literally stopped the song.
and of course, some lady threw some big ass drawers (they weren't panties, they were DRAWERS) instantly and he teased about her having some junk in the trunk. mad cute.
i didn't know some of the songs but my highlights were SUMTHIN' SUMTHIN', FORTUNATE, ASCENSION, EVERWANTING, PRETTY WINGS, Al Green's SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, WHENEVER WHEREVER WHATEVER
the crowd went wild when he did This Woman's Work of course... but, honestly... i hate that song. i know, i know...
Damn, that concert was so soothing.
That man is amazing.
=)

PS- next week is Janet- if she don't cancel!

MORE Common & N.E.R.D RECAP!!!!!!!!!
I HAD to steal some concert clips from my homie Krystell over at Blind But Guided...
Not so much for ya (all 4 of ya lol)... But for me!
Here's the moment where I died, N.E.R.D's Anti Matter:
And HERE is a RIDICULOUS clip of Common and Pharrell dancing during Universal Mind Control, as well as Get Em High, Drivin' Me Wild, I Want You, and that fuckin opening bass to Be which literally makes my heart flutter every time I hear it:
These clips made me smile. OD.
=)

Common & N.E.R.D RECAP!!!!!!!!!
Promised I'd come back with some pictures, right?
Enjoy!
N.E.R.D! (well, Pharrell lol)
Common!
Also got some video clips of one of the illest concerts I've been to.
So, I went with MissTiff and Michelle, and met up with some HS friends after we got there.
We were RIGHT UP FRONT. No joke.
Chester French opened, a new group Pharrell just signed. 2 white boys from Harvard, lol, they were cool... but by that time, our bodies were already killing us and we were anxious for what we came for!
Lights go up and go dim again and it happens.
N.E.R.D comes on stage and i hear that guitar riff. THE guitar riff.
THESE FOOLS STARTED WITH MY FAVORITE SONG OFF OF SEEING SOUNDS. ANTI MATTER.
They also did Bobby James, Braaaaaaain, RUN TO THE SUN!!!!!! Spaz, KillJoy, YOU KNOW WHAT!!!!!! Rockstar! Lapdance, and Everyone Nose and She Wants to Move with helllllla girls on stage. It was crazy.
My Pharrell crush is back and in full effect. Some bullshit, lol
Here are some clips:
Kill Joy
Bobby James
My favorite, You Know What
Common was last and wow, what a set.
He did waaaaaay more new shit than I had expected, but it was fun. When you have a live band, everything just sounds SO. MUCH. BETTER.
Of old shit, he did Go, The People, The Corner, The Food, I Want You, Drivin' Me Wild, BE!!!! TESTIFY!!!! I USED TO LOVE HER!!! and THE LIGHT!!!!
His new one, Universal Mind Control was hot... especially when his fine ass started to break dance.
Pharrell came back out and did some songs, since he's done a lot on the new album.
I'm nervous about this new party album by the way, Common is definitely in a different point in his life.
Here's The Light:
It was an amazing night. I enjoyed N.E.R.D more... I mean, I've seen Common 3x now so, you know.
Fun little side facts:
*Diddy was there, looking all fruity in VIP. Cassie was there too... fixing the sling he had on his left arm here and there lol
*Kanye was rumored to be there, didn't see him.
*Foxy Brown appeared out of nowhere right next to us. Gross. Gross. Gross. Something MUST be wrong because that HAIR?!?!? Oh no....
*Cee-Lo was there, in a tight black velour suit. Looking like a turd. That's mean, he sang a song with Common. Mad cool =)
=)

Quick Music Reviews
I'm late but...
Eric Benet's Love & Life
This is such a nice album.
Besides the "You're the Only One" being my favorite song on here, "Love Patience & Time" "The Hunger" "Don't Let Go" "Chocolate Legs" and "Weekend Girls" are the one's worth downloading, buying, whatever.
I can do without "Everlove" and "Iminluvwichoo" and the remainding 4 are just fine.
Kudos to Eric Benet for the perfect autumny (a new word, sure) R&B album.
Ne-Yo's Year of the Gentleman
Once again, Ne-Yo delivers with an album that yells "I GREW UP LISTENING TO MICHAEL JACKSON."
Guess he can't help it... and I also guess it's ok!
This his 3rd album and I still stand by my belief that his singles amp us up to the point where we're dying to hear the album... we get it.... a bit of disappointment. Agree?
"Nobody" is a fun song, "Fade into the Background" is another of his usual "woe is me" jumpoffs, "So You Can Cry" sounds like "Angel" from the last album...
Long story short, I LOVE "Back to What You Know". Get up on that if you haven't by now!
There's just something about Ne-Yo's voice that makes me want to slit my wrist... Something very sad about it. At all times, haha...
Robin Thicke critique in the near future.

Sarah Palin, You Scare Me.
For the first time ever... I FEEL DIDDY!
Sarah Palin is one scary eskimo.
Apparently she's read everything lol
God forbid homeboy gets elected and then (God forbid again) dies... SHE REALLY COULD BECOME OUR PRESIDENT.
PEOPLE... SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW US!!!!
HOW COULD SHE POSSIBLY HELP?!
Get it together people, I hope you all are ready to vote.
This sounds corny but... People died for us to vote.
That's all I'll say.
